Aug. 20 – Silkscreen Monotype on Brochure

by on Aug.20, 2012, under Printmaking, Sketches, South Slough Area

Experimented with a monotype on a South Slough Reserve Brochure. I first lightly (see through) coated with thinned Gesso. Made a test of mediums on screen for best B&W – watercolor black, Derwent Ink Black 2200 pencil, and 6B Drawing Pencil were the choices.

Light & Dark Path – South Slough

by on Aug.19, 2012, under Collages, South Slough Area

Started a new painting for the South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR) Pathways Series. It is 24 x 30 inches and a past unsuccessful painting. So far, I have used Acrylic Paint, Acrylic Inks, Papers, Gold Leaf, Brushes, Pencils, Brush Handles, hands, and at the end of the cycle I pressed the disposable palette here-and-there into the painting before tossing the palette. Now, it needs to dry before more layering.

After doing a Pen & Ink drawing of Skunk Cabbage which is abundant at South Slough Estuary, I took it into Adobe Illustrator and did a few basic layering of color.

Drawings – South Slough Reserve

by on Aug.16, 2012, under Sketches, South Slough Area

Decided to do some Pen & Ink line drawings along the pathways at South Slough Estuary today. Once there I found that there were too many choices and themes. I tried tastes of different segments of the walk. There was dead stumps with plants, twisting & turning pathways, and an abundance of flora – especially skunk cabbage. Pictured below are 2 of the 3 sketch/drawings – the third, Skunk Cabbage, I’m going to play around with in Adobe Illustrator (AI) and will show the drawing and AI-edits later.

“Dead Stump & Undergrowth” – Pen and Ink – 8×5 in.

“Twisting & Descending Pathway” – Pen and Ink – 8×5 in.
